It's Adoption Day!
Today is our son's adoption day -- the day we brought him home. Since his adoption day is on leap day, we joke that he's only three years old in "adoption years" (12 years in real life).
This morning when I woke him up, I gave him a nice, wet kiss and announced, "Happy Adoption Day! How shall we celebrate?"
"Oh mom, it's no big deal," he sleepily replied.
"Sure, it's a big deal. After all, we only get to celebrate it once every four years."
We still haven't come up with any creative, last-minute ways to celebrate. Maybe that's because his birthday was two days ago and we just did the whole present/birthday cake thing. His birth father gave him a call on his birthday, which he thought was very cool.
I went to my son's band concert this morning (that's him on the right, peeking around the trumpet players) and he gets home from school in just over an hour, so I've gotta plan quick. It's a beautiful spring day; maybe we'll just go for a walk, look at his baby book, and enjoy the fact that he's been a wonderful addition to our family for the last 12 years.
P.S. Our son is now officially a blogger! He attended the Northwest Flower & Garden Show in Seattle with me Sunday and submitted a guest blog post about his experiences. Check it out and leave him a comment if you like it!
